Location

Our cabin is located a short 15 minute drive from Hikurangi Township, 25 minutes to the beautiful Whananaki South beach and the Whananaki Footbridge (the longest footbridge in the southern hemisphere). Marua is also 30 minutes to the Tutukaka coast where you can organise to go diving, surfing or horse trekking. There are some good surf beaches within a 20 minute drive also.

We are 15 minutes from the local foursquare so don't forget to stock up before heading out to the cabin. We like to provide our guests with organic free range eggs from our farm, seasonal organic fruit and produce, and local Marua Honey from our neighbours.

Getting around

The road up to the cabin is a farm road, a 4WD vehicle is recommended but it is accessible with a 2WD. We have some lovely scenic walks and plenty of farm tracks to keep you busy if that’s your thing, or pack a picnic and enjoy the gorgeous local beaches.

THE CABIN

The cabin has a very charming feel — we have put the utmost effort into the decor and making it a cozy but spacious area for you to enjoy. A luxurious king sized bed awaits you after a busy (or not so busy) day exploring the farm or local attractions. There is no wifi or TV but there is cell phone reception and many books, magazines and board games. The kitchen area has clear plastic covers so you can gaze into the distance whilst cooking up a lovely dinner — we have provided all the dinnerware and utensils you may need for your stay and there’s plenty of room for you to chill your wine in the fridge.

The bathroom amenities are in a separate building, built into the forest with a flush toilet and shower. The bathroom has a clear window with forest views so you feel like you’re showering in nature.. but don’t worry, it’s totally private, apart from a bit of peeking wildlife!

Outside, a path leads to a tropical-style upcycled hut with sweeping valley views. You will find a wood fired outdoor bath, a barbeque and a fire pit to toast marshmallows and enjoy a gorgeous sunset.

If you enjoy bird watching or exploring native bush, there are lots of guide books in the cabin and binoculars that you can take with you on a farm walk. The farm is covered in native bush and wildlife and the Regional Council has recently installed monitoring devices down in the gully to pick up any signs/sounds of kiwi.

There truly is something for everyone at Marua Retreat.
